An exciting
opportunity has arisen for a new Matron within the Division of Medicine.
We are looking
for an individual We are looking for a dynamic,
forward thinking and adaptable individual with a demonstrable aptitude for
operational challenges, nursing leadership, quality and safety governance. You
should have an ability to drive change at pace and be able to demonstrate
recent experience in having improved outcomes and experiences for patients.
You
should be able to demonstrate a proven ability to deliver projects to
completion, including change management and cost reduction schemes. As a Matron
you will provide senior nurse support promoting a safe and high-quality service
to patients based on best practice. This will be through leadership and
supervision, robust governance processes, support and development. You will be
required to provide a visible, accessible and authoritative presence in
clinical areas to provide professional leadership. The ideal candidate will be
a proactive individual who can hit the ground running with a wide range of
operational management issues and take immediate ownership of specified tasks
and responsibilities within the Division on Medicine Team.
Main duties of the job
The post will
require rotation across both South Tyneside District Hospital and Sunderland
Royal Hospital to cover the allocated portfolio once agreed post
interview. Applicants will be required
to work evenings and weekends as part of the Duty Matron roster requirement.

The
Matron will ensure at all times that the patient is at the centre of all our
actions and act as a role model for clinical staff.
The
Matron has 24 hour accountability for the wards/departments/areas in their
Directorate for the efficient and effective operational management of the
nursing workforce, guaranteeing provision of high quality evidence-based
nursing practice which will be delivered within hospital, community and
outreach settings.
The
Matron will provide strong clinical leadership within the services and be
highly visible and accessible to patients. Leading by example, the Matron will
drive up standards of clinical care. They should have the responsibility and
authority to get the essential components of care right for patients clean
wards and departments, quality care, ensuring patients are treated with dignity
and respect, resolving problems for patients and relatives and ensuring high
standards are maintained and delivered throughout the services. They will have a particular
responsibility to support the developments of Clinical Governance and Service
Improvement, to modernise patient services and ensure the active involvement of
patients and carers in the way services are developed, delivered and evaluated.
The
Matron will contribute to identifying and managing issues of poor performance,
risk and complaints. The Matron will promote and share best practice and
encourage personal development.
In
undertaking the duties for this post the post holder must comply with the NMC

- First level NMC Registered Nurse (Adult) (RN Child for paediatric roles, RM for Midwifery).
- Degree in nursing studies or relevant clinical degree.
- Masters level study, or equivalent specialist study / experience.

- Masters degree or working towards in relevant associated subject.
