An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent post and also a secondment for one year for a suitably experienced Staff Nurse to step up into a band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse post on our Care of the Elderly Ward E51 at Sunderland Royal Hospital.
We are a progressive 27 bedded care of the elderly ward and by joining us you will have the opportunity to help us achieve our goals and in return we will commit to your ongoing development to support your ongoing career progression and you will be fully supported by the Ward Manager, Directorate Matron and Directorate Senior Management Team.
The right candidate will have strong communication skills and proven leadership qualities and be motivated and have the ability to motivate others. You will be expected to manage the ward in the absence of the Ward Manager and will work together to ensure safe staffing levels at all time. You will act as mentor and preceptor for junior members of the team and will maintain professional standards by acting as a role model.
Main duties of the job
You must have worked as a staff nurse in an elderly care environment and excellent communication skills are essential in addition to proven teaching and assessing skills.
You will be someone who is excited by the prospect of providing the best possible care for our elderly patients and passion about helping the Ward Manager to develop and nurture the nursing team. Someone who is dynamic in their thinking as well as someone who can support the ongoing quality improvement initiatives on the ward.
You will have good leadership skills, interpersonal skills and a flexible approach to work. It is also essential that you are able to provide professional direction, advocating excellence in clinical practice at all times. You will be able to work autonomously and effectively within the multidisciplinary team and maintain a patient focused positive experience and environment.
You will also be able to work clinically on the ward floor to deliver or oversee care delivery as well as effectively managing the staff rota, attending meetings, deal with complaints and ensure all audits are completed on time in the absence of the ward Manager.
We fully support a multi-disciplinary team approach and we work together to ensure our patients receive the highest standards of care and that they also have a safe and effective discharge and your role will be pivotal in helping to lead the team in order to drive this forward.
