Applicants are invited for this Joint
Consultant post within both the Stroke Medicine & Acute Internal Medicine
teams at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust (STSFT). The post
is offered at 10PAs, however LTFT applications will be considered.
The successful candidate will join the
existing team of 6 Stroke and 6 Acute Internal Medicine consultants who deliver
a range of services for patients across both South Tyneside and Sunderland.
Consultant activities will comprise of a range of inpatient and outpatient
activity for both services.
Both departments have close links and
working relationships with emergency medicine and colleagues from other
specialities from across the Trust. Applicants must possess MRCP, hold a CCST
in the relevant specialities and be on the GMCs Specialist Register, or be
within 6 months of being admitted to the GMCs Specialist Register. Skills in
undergraduate teaching and emergency medicine are desirable.

Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be expected to
develop, in conjunction with the department, a comprehensive service for both
stroke & Acute Internal Medicine services and contribute to in and out of
hours activity, including weekend/Bank Holiday review. All applicants must
participate in an agreed share of the consultant rota.
Clinical
Provision and delivery of consultant
support for patients requiring acute medicine or stroke care
Provision of assessment and triage of
patients requiring complex interventions
Ability to facilitate discussions and/or
onward referrals for patients with acute medicine or stroke related problems
requiring input and/or specialist care
Support relevant outpatient services
across both sites / where needed
Support the clinical lead and clinical
director with the development of acute medicine and stroke services across
STSFT.
Administrative
Participate in relevant local and national
audit activities
Attendance at clinical governance
activities / meetings
Act as an educational and clinical
supervisor for junior medical staff in training
Support the delivery of integrated acute
medicine and stroke services as required
Research
Participate in existing clinical trials
and research within the service
Along with the STSFT research and
innovation team, assist with the recruitment of potential participants into
future research studies
