Applications are invited for 2 substantive Consultant
Neurologist posts across South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust.
Both posts are offered on a 10 PA basis, however less than full-time (LTFT) applications will be
considered. Successful candidates will have CCT or equivalent and be on the
GMCs Specialist Register for Neurology when they take up the post (applications
are welcome from those within six months of their CCT date).
We are seeking motivated and supportive individuals who
possess strong communication skills to join our team in developing
comprehensive neurology services for our patients. You must possess a desire to
develop the service and will join a team of seven consultant neurologists and a
wider MDT of junior doctors, specialist nurses, AHPs and PAMs.
The STSFT Neurology service provides sub-speciality care
across a range of clinical pathways including PD, Headache, MS, Epilepsy, Neuro-Ophthalmology
as well as General Neurology. We deliver an in-house Neurophysiology service
and Neurological Rehabilitation service; Neuroradiology and Neuropathology
services are provided at Newcastle and James Cook Hospitals.
Main duties of the job
Applications are welcomed from candidates with a
specialist interest and who wish to pursue and develop their area of practice.
Posts
include dedicated time within the job plan to attend clinical and educational
meetings and there are academic links with the University of Sunderland and
Newcastle University medical schools and regional medical training programmes.
Post-holders
will primarily be based at Sunderland Royal Hospital but are expected to
regularly deliver activity at other sites across the Trust.

- Possess MRCP
- MBBS or other recognised equivalent medical qualification.
- CCT in Neurology and be on the GMCs Specialist Register, or be within 6-9 months of being admitted to the GMCs Specialist Register
Desirable
- Have been involved in academic research as part of their training and have both presented and published peer reviewed articles.
- Have obtained a Higher Degree by thesis (MD, MCH, MSc)
- Special skills training in the specialty.
- Subspecialty Skills in Epilepsy / General Neurology
