Job summary

Part Time-18 hours per week

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced exercise practitioner to work alongside the Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation teams.

It is an opportunity to work across both specialities and support the further development of the services within South Tyneside. There are well-established services in both areas, within hospital site and community site with plans to develop further in the community taking the service closer to the clients and reduce health inequalities.

Main duties of the job

To support and develop both Pulmonary and Cardiac rehabilitation services in South Tyneside according to National Guidance.

To support clients with long term conditions to live a healthier lifestyle.

Lead the exercise component of Cardiac and Pulmonary rehabilitations considering differing abilities, self-management, and knowledge.

We offer currently classes in varying locations and will develop more into the community, closer to the clients homes.

The service currently runs 8-5 Monday-Friday with flexibility to possibly develop both teams further.

We offer great CPD and willing to support applicants to in future training etc

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of direct delivery of physical activity to groups and individuals with varying needs and abilities.
  • Experience of working with individuals with low, moderate and high risk factors for exercise/rehabilitation.
  • Experience of advising individuals in relation to lifestyle and wellness.
  • Knowledge of the principles of exercise programming and design.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Recognised GP referral accreditation course or equivalent (NOC/NVQ Level3).
  • NOS/NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Teaching Exercise and Fitness (for example, RSA/OCR Gym Instructor or Exercise to Music).
  • Be on the register of Exercise Professionals as a Level 4 Advanced Instructor.
  • BACPR qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Level 4 pulmonary rehabilitation qualification (consideration may be given to persons working towards or with a willingness to work towards).

Skills & Knowledge

Essential

  • Ability to organise workload, prioritise competing demands and work under pressure.
  • Good communication skills, maintaining professional behaviour at all times.
  • Knowledge and skills in using motivational interviewing and behaviour changes techniques.
  • Ability to work on own initiative or as a member of the team.
  • Excellent IT and computer skills including in depth knowledge of current technology and audio visual equipment to support documentation of interventions on the specified clinical system (meditech) and to support the remote delivery of exercise classes using digital solutions e.g Microsoft teams or willing to learn.
  • Comprehensive physiological assessment skills e.g. calculating body mass index, and health screening and appraisal.
  • Good knowledge of anatomy and physical relative to physical activity.

  • Meet the travel requirement of the role i.e. to be able to travel to main hospital and community sites during contracted working hours, along with transporting any professional equipment that may be required to carry out the role.
