Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a compassionate, dynamic, motivated nurse to join our Cancer Nurse Specialist Team. The successful post holder will have significant experience in Urology and be willing to work towards achieving the personal specification of the band 7 post (employable at band 6 level).

You will be supported through your development journey to become an accomplished Cancer Nurse Specialist. You will have the opportunity to undertake the ACCEND program, Clinical skills course and non-medical prescribing.

You will be involved in innovative practice and support the introduction of Nurse led Triage services across Urology.

Main duties of the job

The urology CNS will work effectively as an autonomous practitioner and will be core member of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) providing specialist advice and support to patients and their families and acting as keyworker at all stages of the cancer pathway for both inpatients and outpatients.

This will include triaging of patients referred under the 2WW assessing suitability and requesting off appropriate investigations to improve FDS pathway for prostate, renal and bladder, this will also involve ongoing results clinics (new diagnosis clinic)

They will be expected to provide strong clinical leadership skills and influence patient care through clinical practice, clinical management, leadership, education, research, and audit which will align with the directorate vision and ACCEND.

Using the views of patients and carers the CNS will work under the direction of the Line Manager: Advanced Clinical Practitioner and the Cancer Lead Nurse for the Trust and alongside the urology team to improve, patient care using evidenced-based practice, the will play a key part in the continual development, implementation and evaluation of the urology cancer service locally to improve and maintain standards of patient care, and promoting collaboratively working across all multi-professional frameworks to provide a seamless service.
