An exciting
opportunity has arisen to recruit a Matron for the Head & Neck Directorate
at South Tyneside & Sunderland Foundation Trust.
The Matron is a
core member of the directorate & divisional team responsible for the
delivery of the trust objectives for safety, quality and experience. The Matron
has responsibility for the implementation of robust systems and processes that
ensure there is continuing improvement in the quality and productivity of the
service provided to patients; a key role being to maintain the safety of
patients and staff.
The
Matron provides a visible, accessible and leadership presence across the
directorate promoting a culture of learning and sharing good practice in
relation to clinical risk, patient safety and patient experience.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate
strong leadership skills and have experience of effective operational management,
leading clinical development and managing change. The post holder must have evidence
of proactive multidisciplinary working
and possess communication and
organisational skills with evidence of a degree qualification and on-going
professional development.
An interest in Head & Neck, which includes ENT and Oral &
Maxillofacial Services and / or previous experience is desirable.

Matron will ensure at all times that the patient is at the centre of all our
actions and act as a role model for clinical staff.
The Matron has 24 hour
accountability for the wards/departments/areas in their Directorate for the
efficient and effective operational management of the nursing workforce,
guaranteeing provision of high quality evidence-based nursing practice which
will be delivered within hospital, community and outreach settings.
The
Matron will provide strong clinical leadership within the services and be highly
visible and accessible to patients. Leading by example, the Matron will drive up
standards of clinical care. They should have the responsibility and authority
to get the essential components of care right for patients clean wards and
departments, quality care, ensuring patients are treated with dignity and
respect, resolving problems for patients and relatives and ensuring high
standards are maintained and delivered throughout the services. They will have a particular
responsibility to support the developments of Clinical Governance and Service
Improvement, to modernise patient services and ensure the active involvement of
patients and carers in the way services are developed, delivered and evaluated.
The
Matron will contribute to identifying and managing issues of poor performance,
risk and complaints. The Matron will promote and share best practice and
encourage personal development.
In

will uphold and ensure Trust nursing values are implemented and monitored to

- Degree in nursing studies or relevant clinical degree.
- Masters level study, or equivalent specialist study / experience.
