are invited for the Post of Consultant Vascular & Endovascular
Surgeon. You should have full GMC registration, on the Specialist
Register(or be eligible within agreed timeframe)and be successful
in the Intercollegiate Specialty exam (or equivalent). It is essential that you have significant endovascular experience. The Post is full-time with
an indicative 10 PA job-plan, although consideration will be given to Applicants
wishing to work less than full-time.
The
STSFT Vascular Directorate was created following the regional re-organisation
of vascular services in 2019. It provides a sub-regional service to Sunderland,
North Durham, Bishop Auckland and South Tyneside covering a population of
around 900,000.
Imaged intervention is
performed in both our dedicated vascular hybrid theatre (GE Allia 740i) and
angiosuite located in Radiology (Siemens Artis Zee-Q). Although the
endovascular service is largely surgeon-led/delivered with dedicated weekly job-planned
sessional allocations in both facilities, we remain well-supported by the local
interventional radiology team with excellent working relationships. The
existing Consultant Vascular Surgeons provide a routine comprehensive open
surgical service (including renal access) but not all are
endovascular-competent. It is expected that you will
assist in addressing this and facilitate further development of our
endovascular service.
Main duties of the job
The
successful applicant will become part of our team of8.5 WTE Vascular
Consultants. The post will be predominately based at the Sunderland Royal
Hospital (SRH) hub, with requirement for emergency cover and/or elective
clinical sessions at University Hospital of North Durham, Durham Treatment
Centre , Bishop Auckland & South Tyneside General Hospital spoke
sites.
Inpatient
services are based at the SRH arterial hub with our own 24-bedded Vascular ward
(C36). Cross-sectional imaging support is provided at all sites with
specialised vascular sonography at both SRH & UHND. The ambulatory venous
service is provided at both SRH & DTC.
The
department is currently developing streamlined pathways for the management of
specific conditions and the input of the new post holder to further develop
these vascular pathways would be essential. A good working relationship with
interventional radiology/nephrology colleagues to develop an integrated
approach to progressing the endovascular service would be encouraged.
