Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Urology Trust Doctor within Surgical Division at Sunderland this is for 12 months. The successful applicants will also participate in a joint on-call rota working across the 3 directorates, to provide a great learning opportunities whilst providing whilst providing elective support to your chosen team.

The posts represent an opportunity for a CT-equivalent surgical trainee to gain experience in a large acute hospital gaining experience in emergency and elective practice. The successful applicant will be guided in their development by an Educational and Clinical Supervisor and will have access to a range of educational opportunities equivalent to Foundation Programme teaching at year 2 level. The post holder will also have the opportunity to attend departmental surgery teaching sessions, in addition to participation at Morbidity and Mortality meetings and presentation of audits.

The Surgical Division is dynamic and forward thinking. Education, innovation, change, clinical effectiveness and efficiency are integral to the planning and development process across the Directorates. The Division is committed to working towards delivery of patient-centric care, improving both delivery and access to services for all the local populations. The successful candidate will be expected to support senior colleagues in shaping and maintaining the service of this modern forward-thinking Division.

Main duties of the job

Urology is one of three tertiary centres for Urology in the North East, incorporating a wide range of clinical sub-specialties. It has a 27 bed ward and 3 bespoke units for diagnosis and outpatient treatments. There are 3 dedicated Urology theatres, one of which is part of the Robotic Suite. The department is dynamic and have recently led new services including a rapid access unit, one stop clinics and new robotic surgical procedures.

We are looking for dynamic and enthusiastic candidates who can make a real contribution to the development of the unit, and you would be encouraged to participate in clinical audit, and the production of papers for publication.

You will participate in the junior doctor on-call rota, gaining valuable insight into the urology service.
