Job summary
We are
seeking enthusiastic Specialist Health Care Practitioners (Band 6)
to join our friendly team. We are based at Sunderland Royal Hospital and
provide Audiology services across the local area at a number of sites.
These posts would suit a motivated individual
who works well within a team, but also have the ability to work autonomously.
We
pride ourselves on supporting staff development and where appropriate encourage
access to 3rd party training schemes, in accordance with service
needs. The role may also allow skill development
opportunities in the areas of Paediatrics, Balance and Non-Routine Assessment.
The postholder will contribute to the provision and
development of individual management plans in the adult service.
The role will involve taking a specialist role
in a specific clinical area (such as Tinnitus, Specialist Adult Advanced
Diagnostics or Advanced Adult rehabilitation), as well as responsibility for
some managerial functions within the department.
The postholder will help to provide supervision for
a number of junior staff including Practitioners, Associate Practitioners and
Student Audiologists (STP & PTP).
Candidates will
have excellent communication skills, particularly working with those with
hearing loss and will need to be empathetic, organised and able to work well
under pressure.
Main duties of the job
South Tyneside and Sunderland
Audiology Service provides a district level adult rehabilitation service
covering Sunderland and South Tyneside and a sub-regional level service
(including Tier 3 paediatric assessment & rehabilitation and diagnostic
audiology).
The
department has an excellent national reputation and has contributed to
initiatives and guidelines development in areas including Paediatrics, Learning
Disabilities.
A comprehensive range of services relating to the
assessment and rehabilitation of hearing, balance and Tinnitus problems in both
adults and children are provided.
There are 32 staff in the department, including 22
Healthcare Scientists, up to 3 Trainee Clinical Scientists/Audiologists, 2
Associate Practitioners / Audiology Assistants and 5 Admin & Clerical
Support.
The departments normal working hours are Monday Friday (08.00
18.00), and candidates hours can be flexible to suit the service requirements.
We support working 4 longer days (08.00-18.00, with 30 lunch & 1
early finish 17.30)
The department has accredited supervisors providing
BAA Higher Training across the service.
There are good links with the University of
Sunderland and the department has an active research portfolio.
