THIS IS A FIXED TERM POSITION UNTIL 03RD AUGUST 2024.

The Trauma and Orthopaedics Department at South Tyneside and Sunderland Foundation Trust is delighted to be able to offer the post for a Trust Doctor. STSFT has an excellent track record of supporting and developing trust doctors employed in our department.

You will work in our busy trauma and orthopaedics department, supporting our two large wards providing inpatient care for trauma and elective orthopaedics patients as part of a large and diverse multidisciplinary team. You will also contribute to the on call rota in T&O. The post offers opportunities for high quality training, and participation in audit and service improvement. T&O is a research active department.

The post is currently available for a fixed term to August 2024 with a view to extending further for the right candidate. The post holder will be primarily based at Sunderland Royal Hospital but may be required to work at either Sunderland Royal Hospital or South Tyneside Hospital.

Main duties of the job

You will be an experienced junior doctor with evidence of completion of foundation training or equivalent. An interest in Trauma and Orthopaedics is essential, although candidates with previous experience of other surgical specialties, acute medicine or emergency care are also welcome to apply.

You will have the opportunity to develop your skills across the range of our service, including the chance to support trauma and elective theatres and gain valuable experience for your log book.

The T&O Department at STSFT is a large and busy unit, incorporating a wide range of clinical sub-specialties, including complex revision arthroplasty, paediatric, spinal and limb reconstruction services.

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic candidate who can make a real contribution to the development of the unit, and you would be encouraged to participate in clinical audit, and the production of papers for publication.

You will participate in the junior doctor on-call rota, gaining valuable insight into the trauma service which cares for around 400 fractured neck-of-femurs per annum.
