Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled and motivated individual to join our friendly nursing team within the Sexual Health Services at Sunderland Royal Hospital, the post is full time and permanent. The post holder will work with young people from the Sunderland catchment area providing contraception and sexual health care as well as working closely with outside agencies that provide services for young people. They will identify any child safeguarding issues and link in with and make appropriate referrals to the relevant services i.e. Safeguarding team or Childrens Social Care. They will identify those young people who are at high risk of pregnancy and provide support and education with regards to pregnancy options, contraception and safer sex.

Work as part of the multidisciplinary team working under the direction of line manager/Matron

Assess care needs.

Develop programmes of care and implement and evaluate these programmes of care for young people accessing Contraceptive Services.

Undertake all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and take charge in the absence of the person with continuing responsibility.

Be expected to manage extremely sensitive situations.

Identify any child safeguarding issues and adhere to the Trust safeguarding policies and procedures.

Identify those young people who are at high risk of pregnancy and provide support and education with regards to contraception and safer sex.

Support the development of nursing practice within the specialist field through the use of evidence based practice and in line with agreed national standards, and contribute to the body of nursing knowledge.

Work as an autonomous practitioner within their sphere of practice.

Contribute to training and education within the specialist area.

Provide specialist clinical advice and support to patients and clinical staff within the Trust on the management and care of patients within the specialist area.

Provide direct access for patients, either face to face or telephone consultation

Represent the service nationwide in the absence of the line manager/Matron.

Play a key role in ensuring that national and local standards/targets for the specialist area are met.
