We are seeking a Consultant
Midwife to lead and deliver expert care for women with complex medical, social,
or obstetric needs, ensuring safe, personalised, and evidence-based care. This
senior clinical leadership role will focus on leading midwifery care for women
who require care outside of standard clinical pathways.
This role requires strong clinical judgement, excellent
communication skills, and a passion for improving outcomes for women with
complex or non-standard care needs. You will lead work collaboratively across
obstetric, neonatal, safeguarding, and community services to ensure equitable,
compassionate, high-quality maternity care.
The Consultant Midwife will work closely with the Head and
Director of Midwifery and the wider midwifery team, ensuring the provision of
exemplary professional practice.

The Consultant Midwife will act as an expert midwifery advisor internally and externally. This will include acting as an ambassador for the Trusts maternity service, representing it as a centre of excellence internally and nationally as required by the Director/Head of Midwifery.
Main duties of the job
You will have a pivotal role in leading clinical care pathways, including the introduction of midwifery-led, multi-agency clinics for women with complex needs and ensuring successful implementation of The Maternal Care Bundle.
You will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills and have the ability to work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team and wider stakeholders and partners.
The role encompasses the four principal functions:
- Expert midwifery practice and service development.
- Professional leadership and consultancy.
- Education and training.
- Research, audit and evaluation.
Reporting to the Director of Midwifery, you will provide advanced clinical expertise, strategic leadership, and professional guidance to multi-disciplinary teams. You will function as a key advocate for women requiring individualised care planning, contribute to service development, and promote best practice aligned with national standards.
