Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague with a flexible approach to provide an efficient service for patients/women who attend the Obstetrics and Gynaecology departments in Sunderland Royal Hospital and South Tyneside District Hospital.

The successful candidate will join our dynamic team of consultants, each with a specialist interest.

We work together and support each other to provide excellent patient care and create a friendly, supportive working environment.

Main duties of the job

Applicants must be a holder of MRCOG, be eligible for the GMC Specialist Register in Obstetrics and Gynaecology within six months of the time of interview. Applicants must hold a RCOG Gynaecology ATSM or SITM

Applicants must also have excellent organizational and communication skills, be a good team worker and have experience in training undergraduates and postgraduates.

The successful applicant will need to work closely within a team of consultants who all have special interests. This post is mainly to provide general gynaecology care in GOPD and to undertake major and minor procedures (pooled list)

The successful candidate will be able to operate independently. The job plan will also include a weekly medium risk antenatal clinic and be involved in the caesarean section list rota. Sessions are across both South Tyneside and Sunderland hospitals.

On call will involve covering both Obstetrics and Gynaecology in a 1 in 16 rota Weekends are split Friday / Sunday and Saturday

Labour ward is covered with a hot week rotation when the same consultant covers Monday to Friday 8:30-18:00 every day

  • Management of Complex non- malignant disease
  • Gynaecology surgical care
  • Benign Abdominal Surgery
