Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced nurse to join our team on the Same-Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC) as a nurse practitioner. This developing and fast-paced service offers same-day investigation, diagnosis and treatment for a range of urgent and emergency conditions and sees patients referred from sources including the Emergency Department, GP practices and the ambulance service.

The SDEC unit is currently open 8am-9pm 7 days a week, with staff working on a rota to ensure service needs are met. This post will be based at South Tyneside Hospital, however the service operates across both Trust hospitals and cross-site working to Sunderland Royal Hospital will be expected should the needs of the service require.

Main duties of the job

You should be a 1st level registered nurse with significant experience in urgent and emergency care or acute medicine and a keen desire to develop your practice. You will have a proven ability to work autonomously and as part of a collaborative team, making clinical decisions and working together to assess, diagnose and treat patients without the need for overnight admission.
