Deputy Department Ward Manager-Adult Emergency Department

Job summary

The emergency department is a 24 hr service which is fast paced and deals primarily with adults over the age of 16 who present with injuries, ailments chronic and acute illness some of which may be life threatening. Workload can change from minute to minute and you will be expected to work under pressure to deliver care at times of extreme service pressure

Within the role will be responsible for overseeing, delegating and assisting nursing staff and clinicians in assessing and delivery of care for these patients and their relatives or carers

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking for a new challenge who is currently working within the emergency care setting and has prior experience as a band 5/6. We require an enthusiastic, committed and motivated person with excellent communication and proven leadership skills to join our team.

The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership, maintain high standards of care and ensure efficient and safe management of our busy emergency department.

The department delivers a 24-hour service and staff work on a rota to ensure service needs are met.

Main duties of the job

Ensure that patients attending emergency department are treated within national standardsand performance measures are met

To be responsible and accountable for the safe, effective and compassionate nursing care for all patients in department

To exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Code.

To supervise, support and educate junior members of the team, acting as a role model. Support department manager to ensure organisational goals/objectives are met within department.

In the absence of the department manager, is directly responsible for clinical professional and cleanliness standards are maintained in the department.

To ensure effective communication internally and externally regarding patient care and resources.

To comply with the trusts vision, values and behavioural compact.

Ensure provision of essential patient care.

Promote a positive patient experience in an environment that enables compassionate care to be delivered promoting and delivering harm free care within own limitations ensuring safe clinical practice.

Provide effective clinical leadership to the team to support the delivery of trust vision and values.
