Tyneside and Sunderland NHSFT are currently seeking an outstanding individual
to provide excellence and leadership across emergency care services to the
local population of South Tyneside and Sunderland.
This
exciting role will work closely with the clinical and operational teams across
urgent and emergency care and wider internal and external stakeholders, with a
focus on operational performance improvement. The right individual will
demonstrate strong leadership skills and be able to influence service
improvement and change at pace. This post will offer the opportunity to work at
a senior leadership level and influence improvement in operational standards
within the parameters of safe quality care.
The
successful candidate will have a wide range of experience in patient care
delivery with strong clinical credibility The individual will also have a track
record of leading teams to success.

Main duties of the job
The
Emergency Department operates across both the Sunderland Royal and South
Tyneside District Hospital sites. The service includes adult type 1 departments
on both sites, a Paediatric Emergency Department at Sunderland and an Urgent
Care Centre for children at South Tyneside (STUCC). Both sites have a
co-located Same Day Emergency Care Unit and each element of the service is
governed by a series of metrics designed to ensure high quality and timely
care, as well as ensuring flow. These performance metrics are a key element of
statutory submissions and provide a barometer to judge service quality, safety
and effectiveness. A key element of this role will be to drive performance
improvement whilst also supporting the clinical development of the nursing teams
and nursing pathways.
This
role will report to the Divisional Director and require joined up working as a
triumvirate with the Clinical Directors and Matron team. You will be supported professionally by the
Head of Nursing to develop the departments workforce strategies aligned to
capacity and demand and deliver safe and effective patient care.
The
post holder will need an understanding of current professional and clinical
governance issues and demonstrable acute care experience and skills. This role will provide visible and credible
leadership to the teams across both sites.

ensure that key service performance and quality targets measures are met and
drive performance improvement across these areas.
To
lead the analysis of performance challenges, including breach reviews, root
cause analysis of extended waits, flow related incidents and optimal same day
emergency care performance, ensuring there are robust solutions enacted where
performance improvement is required.
To
be responsible for the budget across these areas, ensuring that resources are
deployed effectively and efficiently.
To
be responsible for the overall management of the Departments including
deployment and management of staff and to ensure the co-ordination of all
services provided to patients.
To
lead the development and implementation of processes and pathways to ensure delivery
of KPIs
To
contribute to an effective clinical governance framework
To
be accountable for ensuring that agreed professional standards are reflected in
clinical practice across the Departments
