Job summary

Excellent job opportunities are available for Health Care Assistants at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust (STSFT) across our Outpatients Departments at Sunderland Royal Hospital and Washington Galleries Health Centre. We expect applicants to display the appropriate behaviours and attitudes required to provide safe and compassionate care to our patients, possess level 1 Literacy and Numeracy qualifications and be prepared to achieve or demonstrate competencies in a range of tasks including taking blood, blood pressure and other observations/recordings.

We provide a comprehensive Care Certificate Programme (which consists of both classroom based and self-directed study at home) that will support you in achieving the competencies and skills required to deliver quality patient care.

All Health Care Assistants must complete this programme and achieve their competencies within 14 weeks of commencing in post.

Full and part time hours are available.

Main duties of the job

Some of the key responsibilities of this role will be: Assist the Registered Nurse in the delivery of indirect/direct patient care and treatment as requested:

  • Contribute to the Registered Nurse assessment of a patient by undertaking a number of investigations and reporting findings to the Registered Nurse, including but not limited to patient weight, patient height, BMI, temperature, blood pressure, respirations, pulse, ECG recording, and BM recording. Training will be given.
  • Undertake phlebotomy where advised by the Registered Practitioner .
