Job summary
Nuclear
Cardiology represents a staple of the STSFT Medical Physics service and is
performed in large volumes across our three sites at Sunderland, Gateshead and
South Tyneside.
Two uplift
posts have been created to offer the opportunity to develop experienced Clinical
Technologist staff to lead, progress and deliver our cardiac imaging service,
working together and in close collaboration with Clinical Scientist, Nurse Specialist
and Cardiology staff groups.
In addition to
the routine management of the Nuclear Cardiology service this post will require
post holders to lead pharmacological stress clinics and develop the competency
and skills required to report Nuclear Cardiology studies.
Owing to
variation in clinical demands across all three sites successful candidates will
be required to work across all three sites in delivery of the cardiac service
as and when required.
Main duties of the job
Actively manage and lead
nuclear cardiac stress clinics waiting lists
Perform the full range of
tasks associated with nuclear cardiac pharmacological stress testing of
patients.
Work closely with the
services Nuclear Cardiology ARSAC holders for reporting of myocardial
perfusion scintigraphy studies as per agreed clinical protocols.
Implement
cross site protocols, procedures & policies related to myocardial perfusion
scintigraphy and contribute to their development where appropriate.
In addition to Nuclear
Cardiology the post holder will be expected to support the general day to day
delivery of the full nuclear medicine service including radiopharmaceutical
production.
Key requirements:
For appointment you must be a registered clinical technologist and
have sufficient post registration experience to be able to demonstrate you are
able to fulfil all of the requirements of the job description
These roles
will require extensive and effective collaboration with multi-disciplinary
teams. Applicants will need to be able to demonstrate they have excellent
interpersonal skills and a willingness to work alongside others to achieve the
combined goal of delivering an excellent service.
The hours of the post are
37.5 hours per week but staff who currently work < 1WTE will also be
considered and working hours formalised if successful.
The post holder will be
required to cover cardiac service provision at the three Medical Physics Units
& must be prepared to travel.

Job responsibilities
Actively manage and lead nuclear cardiac stress clinics waiting lists for local and cross
site services.
Perform the full range of tasks associated with nuclear cardiac pharmacological stress
testing of patients. This includes (but not limited to):
1. Authorisation of myocardial perfusion scintigraphy requests on behalf of the
Nuclear Cardiology ARSAC holder as per locally approved referral criteria.
2. Review of patients clinical notes, medications and history to determine
appropriateness for pharmacological stressing,
3. Safe intravenous administration of pharmacological stressing,
radiopharmaceutical and stress reversal agents (if required).
4. Active patient monitoring and interpretation of 3/12 lead ECG, blood pressure
and patient airways to ensure rapid response to any deleterious effects arising
from pharmacological stressing.
Stress sessions are often performed without direct clinical supervision. The post holder
will be required to independently and actively manage the full spectrum of potential
negative responses patients may have to drugs used for pharmacological stressing up
to and including severe events such as cardiac arrest.
Work closely with the services Nuclear Cardiology ARSAC holders for reporting of
myocardial perfusion scintigraphy studies as per agreed clinical protocols. This role will
require the post holder to have sufficient competence and expertise to:
1. Identify and independently report studies that exhibit normal myocardial
perfusion.
2. Prepare reports for consensus review with a Nuclear Cardiology ARSAC holder
for studies that exhibit abnormal myocardial perfusion.
3. Discuss their reports and findings with senior clinical colleagues and multidisciplinary teams.
4. Train junior radiologist / cardiologist staff in reporting of myocardial perfusion
scintigraphy.

scintigraphy and contribute to their development where appropriate
In addition to Nuclear Cardiology the post holder will be expected to support the
