Specialist Speech and Language Therapist - Adult Team

Job summary

Our Trust recognises the value of Speech and Language Therapy and we have some exciting additional investment in our acute team so we have some new permanent, Band 6 Speech and Language Therapy posts. We have two posts at 37.5 hours per week and one post at 30 hours per week to expand our well established, highly regarded, comprehensive South Tyneside and Sunderland Adult Speech and Language Therapy Team.

You will work predominantly in our comprehensive acute setting which includes our stroke unit, neurorehab ward, critical care, assessment unit, medical and orthopaedic wards supporting communication and swallowing disorders. There may be opportunity for some outpatient/community work. You will be part of a wider team that also covers stammering, laryngectomy, head and neck cancer and voice/upper airways disorders. You will have opportunity to develop your skills in working with people with a wide range of communication problems and swallowing difficulties and you will be involved in instrumental assessment clinics as you develop competencies. As a team we work together to provide the best service we can whilst striving to develop staff who are our key asset to improve patient outcomes. You will have excellent support and be encouraged to be innovative and develop your leadership and research skills too .You will align to our vision and values as we work together to improve patient care.

Main duties of the job

We provide Speech and Language Therapy for Adults across South Tyneside and Sunderland. We are part of a wider integrated Adults and Childrens SALT team which gives us additional opportunities to develop and grow our staff and service.

Essential

  • Membership of Health and Care Professions Council
  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree qualification.
  • Certificate to practice issued by Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  • Fulfilment of RCSLT competency criteria Completion of external courses in specialist area.
  • Basic Counselling Skills
  • Successful completion of specialist post-graduate training e.g. RCSLT accredited Dysphagia Management Course or equivalent
  • Evidence of CPD including attendance of a wide range of short courses in specialist clinical area e.g. Aphasia, Dysphagia, Motor Speech Disorders
  • Membership of relevant Special Interest Groups
  • Well-established knowledge of a range of specialist assessment tools relevant to a wide range of adult communication disorders
