An opportunity
has arisen to join our friendly, forward thinking and collaborative team at
South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust. Our Dietetic Department of more than 50 staff
is managed as one team, but is structured into smaller teams led by Senior
Specialist Dietitians. We are actively involved in the training of
Trainee Dietitians and offer A, B and C placements for both Leeds Beckett and
Newcastle University.
We are looking
to recruit a self-motivated and committed dietitian to join our renal dietetic
team of 2 specialist dietitians. The
post holder will work with both inpatients and outpatients for general
nephrology, pre-dialysis/low clearance, acute kidney injury, end stage renal
disease patients receiving renal replacement therapy - haemodialysis/peritoneal
dialysis and renal transplantation. Outpatient haemodialysis is provided at the
main renal unit at Sunderland Royal Hospital and two dialysis satellite units
in Washington & Durham. Applicants
should have a keen interest in the nutritional management of renal patients
(training can be provided) and be able to work flexibly especially when
covering evening / twilight dialysis patient shifts.

Main duties of the job
This
role sits within the Dietetic renal team.
The team work on a rotational basis every 3 months with rotations being
the renal ward, Sunderland dialysis unit, and satellite units in Washington
& Durham. There is cross cover
within rotations. The renal MDT works
closely and are supportive of dietitians.
There will be
opportunities in the field of research as we look to adopt and support the AHP
regional strategy. You will be supported
to undertake any applicable leadership courses
The department is
friendly and supportive and encourage CPD, including regular clinical
supervision and evidence-based practice groups.
There will be
opportunities to undertake non-medical prescribing as this has been shown to be
useful within renal medicine.
