Job summary

This role is only available to current employees of STSFT.

This an exciting opportunity to support career development and for employees who want to learn on-the-job supported and mentored by experienced staff. This is our second cohort of Posts to support the transition of Podiatrists from a Band 5 to Band 6.

You will be expected to complete the internal Band 6 competency programme within 12-18 months of commencing the Post, you will be allocated your own individual mentor and always be provided in a supportive culture.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for person(s) to help and develop the Service and work towards being a centre of excellence.

The Posts will operate across a number of podiatry sites in both Sunderland and South Tyneside, will carry and be responsible for your own case-load and to be able to utilise appropriate care pathways but always supported by a mentor.

You must demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills and are able to operate effectively on your own and within a team. STSFT Podiatry treat our staff like they are family and support a flexible working environment.

You will also be expected to demonstrate an excellent baseline knowledge, experience and skills working as a Band 5.

The job operates Monday Friday, normally working hours are 8.30am 4.30pm. However, we will support flexible working arrangements.

The Sunderland site has an on-site gym and Training and Education Centre.

  • Podiatry Diploma/Degree.
  • Local Analgesia Administration Certificate.
  • Evidence of a portfolio to demonstrate the above.

  • Good communication skills are essential:
  • You will be required to ask patients questions about their health as part of the assessment process.
  • You will be required to provide health education as part of this role- giving patients information about their foot and overall health. You must have the ability to tailor information to the individual patient and their level of understanding.
  • You will be required to communicate effectively with other members of the Podiatry team and other healthcare professionals, e.g. make referrals nail surgery, wound care, biomechanics, liaise with the GP about the patients overall health and signpost to other services.
  • You will be required to record the assessment and treatment notes into the patient electronic record and produce GP letters.
  • Ability to work in a wider team as well as using own initiate.
  • Good organisational skills, as you will be managing your own caseload and also expected to accept responsibility for the day-to-day running of the Clinics in which you work.
  • Demonstrate understanding and knowledge in the management of a caseload with a high proportion of increased-risk patients and be able to demonstrate referral pathways.
  • Demonstrate ability to use vascular and sensory equipment.
  • Willingness to undertake further training.

  • Reflective practice and portfolio of learning of Podiatric
  • Degree.
  • Prior experience of working as Band 5 NHS Podiatrist.
