Job summary
The South
Tyneside and Sunderland Medical Physics Service provides services to Sunderland
Royal Hospital, South Tyneside Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital Gateshead,
providing per annum about 9000 diagnostic nuclear medicine patient
investigations, 100 radionuclide therapy administrations, 4500 bone density
measurements and 2000 vascular ultrasound studies. There is a small Clinical
Instrumentation and Physiological Measurement section at Sunderland Royal
Hospital.
Currently
the service has four dual detector gamma cameras, a dedicated cardiac camera
and 2 bone densitometers. The Trust is in the process of installing a state of
the art SPECT-CT with CZT Detectors.
The Trust is
provided additional Medical Physics Services through a service level agreement
and the post holder advises the Trust on this agreement.

Main duties of the job
The Head of
Medical Physics will be a HCPC registered Clinical Scientist specialising in
Nuclear Medicine but with sufficient knowledge of other Medical Physics
disciplines to manage and develop those services.
They must
have excellent communication, management and leaderships skills and be able to
develop effective professional relationships within the Trust, regionally and
nationally.
They will
have proven scientific leadership and management skills, be able to develop and
implement strategy, be motivational and able to ensure the delivery of high
quality scientific services through continuous improvement.
