Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust as an Apprentice Healthcare Assistant. Successful applicants will undertake a formal apprenticeship training programme to gain the knowledge, skills and competence to work as a Healthcare Assistant.

The apprentice will complete the Care Certificate in the first three months in the role and will be allocated a mentor and buddy to help them achieve the required competencies for the post. Alongside the Care Certificate the apprentices will complete a Level 2 apprenticeship standard ensuring consistent practice is applied to the role.

Main duties of the job

The duration of the apprenticeship is 18 months which is subject to regular reviews to demonstrate progress. Apprentices will commence on Annex 21* of the salary stated and to support the development in the role, the postholder is required to complete a Level 2 Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship Standard over the period of the apprenticeship. Maths and English minimum GCSE Grade D/Grade 3 or minimum Level 1 or above Maths and English equivalent, is essential for the post. Following the successful completion of the apprenticeship the apprentice will moved into a substantive position.

*Annex21 is a NHS training allowance that is a percentage of the banding
