This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in tackling health inequalities across the North East and North Cumbria. You will be joining a new team hosted by South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust (STSFT) but working across the whole region.

The North East and North Cumbria has committed to placing health literacy at the heart of its work to tackle health inequalities. You will be responsible for supporting this large, diverse and innovative programme of work. Working with a wide range of stakeholders including NHS staff, local authorities, the voluntary sector, researchers and local communities you will be responsible for supporting an ambitious work plan across a large area.

This role would suit someone who is passionate about fairness and tackling health inequalities. You should be highly motivated and enjoy working in a changing environment with multiple partners. You will be supported by a team at STSFT and a large network across the region. This is a new role offering the chance to make a positive difference for communities in the North East and North Cumbria.

Main duties of the job

You will support the development and delivery of the health literacy training programme across the North East and North Cumbria (NENC) Integrated Care System (ICS).

You will design training to fill gaps where training does not yet exist. You will deliver awareness, skills and cascade training across our ICS. You will come up with innovative solutions for managing capacity, such as, creating online training videos and delivering training online. You will make sure training is evaluated in order to assess the impact and make improvements.

Experience of delivering training to people from various organisational settings, both online and face to face, is important. Experience of designing training that is engaging, interactive, with clear learning outcomes is important. A good understanding of different learning styles is helpful.

You will work alongside the Health Literacy Strategic Manager and a core team based within STSFT but working across the whole region.

It is not essential to be an expert in health literacy to apply for this role. However, you should have experience of working to tackle health inequalities and be committed to the principles of fairness and social justice.

It is expected that you will actively promote the principles of embedding a health literacy approach across the NENC.

It is an essential requirement of the role that you hold a valid driving licence, own or have access to a car and are able to use the car for work purposes.

Desirable

  • Preparing to Teach in the Life Long Learning Sector (Level 3)
  • Certificate in Teaching in the Life Long Learning Sector (Level 4)
  • Diploma in Teaching in the Life Long Learning Sector (Level 5)

Physical Skills

  • Adaptable and able to work flexibly when required
  • It is an essential requirement of the role that the post holder has a valid driving licence and is either a car owner and able to use the car for work purposes
  • DBS required
