Job summary

As part of an expanding team, a position has arisen for a Telecoms Technician within the Telecoms team.

The successful candidate will work within a small telecoms team to help develop and deliver an IP telephony service as well as providing support and maintenance for a range of legacy telecoms systems deployed across the Trust.

You will play a key part in helping to support these important systems and will gain exposure to a range of other technologies and solutions, including, incident and problem management, ICT infrastructure projects, telephony applications, service monitoring and system maintenance.

You will be a hard-working individual with experience of telephony support and installation, including legacy and VoIP technologies.

It is desirable that you have in depth knowledge and experience of a range of telecoms solutions. A good working knowledge of ICT infrastructure and networking concepts would also be advantageous.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide support activities in line with department's operating procedures, ensuring the smooth running of telephony services. The Team is responsible for the maintenance and development of the telephony services used by the Trust.

To provide technical support and guidance for changes and maintenance and to deploy and support robust telephony solutions.

This role may periodically be required to work alongside Engineers form the Trusts ICT Infrastructure services, other local Trusts and external suppliers to ensure that the underlying IT Infrastructure is maintained and available.

To be responsible for providing and maintaining telecoms services, ensuring that facilities are available, reliable and performing as expected.

The nature of the post will mean that some activities will require completion outside the normal core office hours.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Hold a degree or a degree in a Telecommunications, Networking,
  • Electrical/Electronic Engineering or IM&T related subject.
  • Or
  • Hold a higher certificate/diploma (or equivalent) in an IM&T related
  • subject plus at least three years practical experience of providing
  • Telecoms/ICT technical support within a large organisation.
  • Or
  • Hold a recognised vendor technical qualification in a relevant technology/discipline.
  • Or
  • Equivalent time served working and training in a recognised telecommunications technology which may include manufacturers
  • training in PABX equipment, data communications and networking,
  • wiring infrastructure and IP/analogue/digital telephony, plus five years of relevant practical experience of supporting a telecoms infrastructure
  • technologies in a large organisation.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • The post holder will possess knowledge and relevant experience, in a selection of the specific techniques and technologies employed within the Trust. These include (but are not limited to):
  • Mitel telecommunications products,
  • Atos telecommunications products,
  • Netcall telephony applications,
  • Vocera communications system,
  • Tiger/ Focom call logging products,
  • Microsoft Windows Server operating systems including Active Directory
  • (and associated domain services),
  • Network equipment and systems.
  • Excellent technical, analytical and organisational skills.
  • Preparation and interrogation of Call logging and billing information.

  • Awareness of technical solutions in NHS.
