Job summary

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic Specialist Palliative Care Nurse to work in our Sunderland. You will be joining an experienced team of Specialist Palliative Care Nurses, and will be part of an integrated multi-disciplinary team who work from the purpose built St Benedicts Hospice and Centre for Specialist Palliative Care

The post holder will be responsible for providing the highest standard of expert holistic care for patients and their families managing their own caseload and providing specialist palliative care nursing, advice and support to patients, carers and professionals across Primary and Secondary Care.

Provision of education to colleagues across the health and social care sector, both formal and informal, is an integral part of the role.

Main duties of the job

The applicants should have considerable, recent, experience of providing palliative and or cancer care to patients in a senior nursing role at Band 6 or above in either the community or hospital environment.

You should be/have:

  • RGN
  • Teaching Qualification ENB998/ or equivalent
  • Relevant Degree
  • Palliative/Cancer Care qualification e.g. ENB 931/285/237
  • Clinical skills qualification
  • Independent nurse prescribing qualification
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills

  • Continue to develop advanced knowledge and skills within specialist sphere of practice.
