The post holder will be part of South Tyneside Lifecycle Primary Care Mental Health Service, which incorporates South Tyneside Talking Therapies, Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS) and the Healthy Minds Team.

South Tyneside Lifecycle Service is an award-winning service and one of the highest performing Talking Therapy services at both regional and national level.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have:

  • Experience of working to support the mental health needs of adults within a primary care or community setting.
  • An understanding of common mental health problems and their impact on social functioning and physical health
  • An understanding of at least one brief psychological and/or psychosocial intervention and the development of positive mental health.
  • A commitment to the recovery model of mental health and service user and carer involvement
  • Skills in assessment and interventions for clients and consultation and supervision with primary care colleagues.

There is recognition that staff can realise their potential through effective clinical and management supervision, managerial support, and through access to internal and external training.

Staff development and their wellbeing are accepted as priorities, and we have a long-established Wellbeing Strategy Group which develops wellbeing initiatives for the service.

The post is for 22 hours per week and requires the post holder to work one late shift per week.

Qualifications

Essential

  • An accredited Counselling qualification (Minimum Level 4 Diploma), and accreditation (e.g. BACP or UKCP) or be accreditable, with 12 months minimum post qualification experience, or Degree level or post graduate qualification in a psychological or psychosocial intervention.
  • Accredited Counselling course.
  • Included a supervised placement as an integral part of the training.
  • Required an assessment of your competence at the end.

Skills, Attributes and Knowledge

Essential

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good organisational skills and ability to work autonomously.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the recovery approach to Mental Health.
  • Able to engage people who have experienced a range of mental disorders.
  • Ability to challenge inequality and oppressive practice.
  • Basic Microsoft Office IT skills.
  • An ability to work in time-limited model that encourages focussed intervention and disengagement.

Physical Requirements

  • Must have an ability to visit a variety of sites within South Tyneside.

Experience
