Job summary

Do you want to join an innovative service delivering high quality treatments in primary care to people with common mental health problems? Gateshead Talking Therapies are an award-winning Talking Therapies service and one of the highest performing services at both regional and national level. There is recognition that staff can realise their potential through effective clinical and management supervision, managerial support, and through access to internal and external training. Staff development and their wellbeing are accepted as a vital priority, and we have a long-established Wellbeing Strategy Group which develops wellbeing initiatives for the service. You will deliver interventions as part of Talking Therapies and will have experience of providing psychological therapies in primary care. You will be expected to use traditional and innovative treatment methods using NICE Low Intensity Treatment interventions such as Low Intensity CBT.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to deliver interventions in a developing primary care setting and play a full part in the effective development and operation of the whole of the service. Regular supervision is an important aspect of the work of the service. You must have:

  • A post graduate certificate in low intensity therapy or evidence of passing the post graduate low intensity training.
  • Experience of working to support the mental health needs of adults in primary care.
  • Comprehensive mental health assessment skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Skills in the delivery of relevant therapeutic interventions.
  • Ability to offer advice to a broad range of professionals and work co-operatively to deliver joint interventions with a range of providers.

  • Qualification from PWP Training Course (Post graduate diploma in low intensity therapy) / Evidence of passing course, and must be registered with either the BABCP or BPS.

  • Training in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, counselling or within a psychological therapy.
  • Psychology or other health related undergraduate degree.
  • Psychology or other health related postgraduate degree.

Physical Skills

  • Car driver and/or ability and willingness to travel to locations throughout the organisation.
  • High level of enthusiasm and motivation.
