Essential

  • HCPC registered ODP (Dip (HE) Operating Department Practice)
  • NMC registered Nurse (Advanced Diploma/Degree in Adult Health Nursing)

Desirable

  • Learning and Assessing in Practice (or equivalent teaching/mentoring qualification)
  • Patient Care in Anaesthesia (or equivalent anaesthetic CPD module)

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of caring for patients with acute and long term conditions
  • Working under pressure with frequent interruptions

Desirable

  • Leadership

Knowledge

Essential

  • Working knowledge of basic operating department routine and surgical specialties undertaken
  • Understanding of the surgical patient pathway through the hospital

Desirable

  • Working knowledge of relevant equipment
  • Aware of AFPP Standards and Guidelines for safe Peri-operative Practice

Technical Skill

Essential

  • Basic IT literacy
  • Demonstrable ability with vital signs monitoring equipment and ability to recognise the deteriorating patient
  • Able to work unsupervised and on own initiative

  • Technical/clinical competencies relevant to practice role eg, airway management, use of Da Vinci robot etc
  • Able to supervise junior staff effectively
