Job summary
We are looking for experts with lived experience of Learning disabilities and/or Autism to join our Oliver McGowan training team. You will be required to deliver Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training in Learning Disability and Autism to people who work in health and social care, in the classroom and via online webinars. The aim is to help people understand their role in supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people and the difference they can make to improve care.
Main duties of the job
You should be confident and comfortable when speaking to groups of staff about your lived experiences. Full training will be provided alongside ongoing support to help you develop your skills. The training sessions follow a script which you will be following, and a facilitator will be in the classroom to support the session.
Topics within the training include:
o Learning disability awareness and/or understanding autism.
o Reasonable adjustments.
o Supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people with mental health conditions.
o Communication.
o Supporting young people with a learning disability.
The role will involve working with other experts with lived experience and may include training other experts and trainers to become part of the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training team.
The role can be flexible but will involve the need to travel independently to different venues to deliver training.This training will be delivered through online virtual 1-hour sessions and through face-to-face training in groups of up to 30 which can last approximately 3 hours.
