Job summary

An opportunity has arisen to join a small, friendly and dedicated team within the Clinical Measurement Department at University Hospitals Dorset. The department is open from 8am until 5pm; Monday to Friday however weekend working may be required in the future. Staff will be required to work flexibly between these hours.

The healthcare science practitioner post is a 3 year fixed term role. The post holder will assist with the provision of routine Clinical Measurement Services which includes a range of diagnostic assessments. Many of the assessments sit within the field of gastroenterology, colorectal and pelvic floor.

The post holder will work under the direction of the Clinical Measurement team. We will provide you with training across all clinical areas and there may be an opportunity for the post holder to undertake additional training in the form of a level 4 Diploma in Healthcare Science (subject to interest and suitability). The apprentice will undertake practical training whilst working with a team of practitioners, and clinical scientists providing the diagnostics and at the University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will support and assist the team with performance of diagnostic tests and assessments. They will conduct their routine and non-routine activities under the overall guidance of senior staff. Training will be provided. There will be some administrative duties associated with the role, such as maintaining records of patient attendance, preparation of patient packs, liaising with ward staff and porters and arranging in-patient transport to and from the Department.

The post holder will set-up the clinical room/s and equipment for clinical measurement investigations as required prior to the investigation, and clear the room and equipment following investigations, as required.

The post-holder will follow department policies and SOP's and will report to the Head of Clinical Measurement at regular intervals, to ensure the appropriate maintenance and development of Clinical Measurement services.
