Job summary
The Maternity Risk and Governance Team and looking for a lead midwife to support the team and cover maternity leave for approximately 1 year.
The main purpose of the Governance and Risk Lead is to ensure that standards are maintained to a high level to deliver safe quality patient care. Responsibilities will include providing assurance, support and assistance to the senior management team, divisional director and trust board as and when required. Develop and manage maternity clinical governance processes, for delivering and providing assurance whilst supporting learning around the clinical governance agenda related to incident reporting and investigation, and risk management. Overall management in facilitating good governance and ensuring the reduction of risk throughout the maternity department, meeting the national safety standards and reporting. Ensuring at all times being proactive and an exemplary role model, who leads best practice and development of staff skills and knowledge across the maternity department whilst supporting the senior leadership team in the delivery of safe effective patient care.

Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be responsible for providing specialist risk and governance management, guidance and advice, and will take responsibility for ensuring that a positive clinical risk management culture is adopted throughout. This will include leading investigations and delivering on outcomes, ensuring feedback and lessons learnt are shared following clinical investigations.
The post holder will work to a high degree of autonomy to manage often highly complex and sensitive cases in an effective, timely and responsive manner.
Support and deputise for the Maternity Risk and Governance Manager in the management of the relevant area.
