Job summary
This post is for a Specialty Doctor who can deliver high quality care along the entire Stroke Service pathway. This will include hyper-acute care, regional 7-day TIA service, stroke rehabilitation, stroke outpatient/follow-up clinics and stroke research. This is a 1-year position (with potential opportunity to extend after 1 year). Stroke is at the forefront of exciting changes to for all emergency services to be based at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH) site and all planned care at the Poole Hospital (PH) site by 2030. All in-patient stroke beds are now based at RBH, within our 43-bed purpose-built stroke unit, of which 8 beds are designated as hyper-acute stroke. Our weekday TIA Rapid Access Neurovascular clinic is currently based at PH, with weekends provided on a shared rota basis in collaboration with Salisbury Hospital (2 weekends at RBH and 1 weekend at Salisbury). Approval and investment funding has recently been agreed for a new 7-day Neurovascular Same Day Emergency Clinic (SDEC) which will be based at RBH, and plans are progressing to re-locate our weekday TIA service from PH to RBH and embed it within our new Neurovascular SDEC service (current timescale for re-location is April/May 2025). It is anticipated that the post holder will deliver stroke sessions across the two hospital sites until all services are based solely on the RBH site.
Main duties of the job
The post holder should be an enthusiastic, effective team player with a flexible approach who can embrace new ways of working and will be expected to take an active role in the running of our stroke and rehabilitation services.
The successful candidate will have experience in Stroke Medicine at a middle grade level (or equivalent). We are keen to appoint the right candidate who is flexible, enthusiastic, and self-motivated. Research, a higher degree and overseas experience are not essential, although will be regarded favourably.

The hospital site base for this post will be the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, with a plan to relocate the weekday TIA service (currently based at Poole Hospital), anticipated during Spring of 2025, centralising all stroke services together at The Royal Bournemouth Hospital site. Upon relocation of the role/service, excess mileage allowance / reimbursement will not apply, and any travel between the postholder's home and work base will be classified as a commute. Any other changes unrelated to this, will be handled in line with Trust/National terms and conditions.
