Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 HCSW / Therapy assistant who is passionate about working in older person's rehabilitation to join the Day Hospital multidisciplinary team. The Day Hospital service is an award winning 7 day service committed to delivering rehabilitation for patients within an outpatient setting and also within the community and the patients own home so applicants must have a full drivers license and have access to a car. We are a highly motivated team of integrated professionals who are passionate about providing a holistic approach that supports and empowers patients to achieve independence. The successful candidate will be compassionate, forward thinking and a team player. Previous experience of the older person in a rehabilitation environment is essential. This post will require weekend working on a rota basis. Please note that we do not offer sponsorship for this role Base Location: Christchurch Hospital Interview Date: TBC

Knowledge

Essential

  • Basic rehabilitation techniques
  • Understanding of illness and aging

Desirable

  • General knowledge of relevant medical conditions

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience working in a hospital
  • Previous experience working with the elderly/or disabled Previous work as a Health care Assistant or equivalent (e.g. Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy Assistant where direct patient care is involved).
  • Promoting independence

Desirable

  • Previous experience working in a hospital
  • Previous experience working with the elderly/or disabled

Qualifications

Essential

  • A qualification at NVQ 3 or above and relevant to working in a care setting

Desirable

  • Relevant Diploma e.g. Welfare Officer, Teaching, Nursing, Exercise/Sports Science

Technical Skills Competencies

Essential

  • Ability to work independently, on unit and/or in patient's homes, working on own initiative with guidance/supervision from qualified staff
  • Effective time management skills Ability to manage own caseload with access to qualified staff

  • Ability to complete functional patient assessments (e.g. PADLs, Kitchen)
  • Ability to carry out simple patient cognitive assessments (e.g. MMSE)

Other requirements specific to the role

  • Ability to drive and hold a full driver's license and have access to own vehicle for work purposes
  • Ability to move and handle patients and equipment using approved techniques
