Job summary

We are offering a unique opportunity to join the Therapeutic Radiographer team at University Hospitals Dorset (UHD) and become a qualified Radiographer through the apprenticeship scheme.

We are looking to recruit caring, highly motivated, organised and academically self-sufficient individual to join our team.

The Therapeutic Radiographers are a friendly and committed team at the UHD Radiotherapy Service situated at Poole Hospital, with a satellite centre in Dorset County Hospital.

At UHD we provide the only Radiotherapy service for Dorset. To care for our patients we offer a wide range of different modern techniques using the latest technology and clinical procedures.

The apprenticeship is a joint 3 year programme with our education partner. At the end of it you will qualify with BSc degree in Therapeutic Radiography. You will be supported in the department by our dedicated practice educators and the rest of the staff and specific learning will be provided by the University. As an apprentice you will be provided with dedicated study time of 7.5 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

The candidate will need to learn how to cover reception, prepare patients for CT scans and preparations for treatment. Support the Radiographers in managing the patients pathway including booking appointments and treatment people with cancer. Also there will be dedicate time for clinical learning placements and academic time with the university.

The successful candidate will need to be highly motivated, self directed learner and dedicated to the caring for patients

Please note that after successful completion of the second year of the course you would progress to a Band 4.

Job responsibilities

  • To support the service to provide patient centre care for patients of the Dorset Cancer Centre
  • To work within the Radiotherapy department under the Radiotherapy Radiographer Apprenticeship programme. Work under the supervision of a Registered Practitioner To participate in all shifts in the department. Attend mandatory training and updates, according to Trust policy Work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team Apprentices will be workplace based for four days (30 hours) per week and 1 day (7.5 hours) will be protected study time either locally or at the associated Higher Education Institution (HEI). Attendance of training at the associated HEI is essential and annual leave must be arranged outside these sessions.
  • The post holder will fulfil all tasks and work as part of a team responsible for providing an efficient service in the Radiotherapy Department. It may be necessary to attend other Radiotherapy Departments to gain sufficient experience in some treatments.
  • The key work relationships are withPatients, UWE, Practice Educator, Radiotherapy staffand other students and health care professionals
