Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Trauma and Orthopaedics Directorate in the role of General Manager. This post will lead the Directorate in the strategic and operational delivery of the Trust's quality, performance, workforce, financial and transformation priorities and will work closely with the Surgical Care Group Senior Leadership Team and reports directly to the Group Director of Operations. The Directorate provides Trauma and elective Orthopaedic services at two of UHD's hospital sites, managing a budget of £29m with 400 staff. The Orthopaedic Trauma provision is located on the Poole Hospital site and includes a brand new 'Barn' theatre, virtual fracture clinics, plaster roomand the Trauma and Orthopaedic Ambulatory Care Unit (TOACU). The service has 4 trauma wards focusing on: trauma admissions; complex trauma injuries; lower limb fragility factures and a medically stable trauma ward which focuses on rehabilitation. The Royal Bournemouth Hospital site focuses on elective orthopaedics and is supported by 2 inpatient wards, pre assessment, outpatients and theatre provision including 3 dedicated operating theatres. Base Location: Royal Bournemouth Hospital but cross site working will be required. Interview Date: TBC
Main duties of the job
- The purpose of this role is to lead the Directorate in ensuring the provision of high-quality patient services that are clinically safe, delivered cost effectively and meet the Trust's Values, priorities and performance targets.
- The post holder will lead the Directorate's Triumvirate to develop the Directorate Operational plan as part of the Care Group annual business planning process.
- The post holder will lead the Directorate's Triumvirate teams for the strategic and operational delivery of agreed quality, performance, workforce and financial plans, including a delegated Cost Improvement Programme.
- The post holder will contribute to ensuring that the corporate aims and vision of the Trust are achieved. To set the vision and determine the objectives of clinical services, monitor performance against these and take corrective action where appropriate.
- The post holder will be required to maintain a significant breadth of knowledge of all aspects of their portfolio, in order to influence and determine strategic direction, to achieve delivery of key performance targets and support the modernisation of efficient and cost effective services.
