Job summary
Due to the retirement of the current post holder an exciting opportunity has arisen within University Hospitals Dorset's (UHD) Addiction Care & Treatment Services (ACTS), based predominantly at our Royal Bournemouth Hospital site.
The applicant will provide highly skilled assessment and interventions for patients attending hospital because of their use of alcohol from emergency department attendance to admission through to discharge.
Our aim is to improve the health outcomes of patients and minimise potential returns to hospital using a variety of interventions and skills, including comprehensive assessment, psycho-social interventions and referral on to community-based partner agencies.
The team manages all aspects of care for patients admitted and undergoing medically assisted withdrawal from alcohol to support discharge planning and relapse prevention with the aim of positive outcomes for our patients.
The post holder will also actively contribute to our innovative in-patient elective/planned alcohol detoxification service and out-patient service.
Holding an independent prescribing qualification is an essential requirement (or commitment to undertake) of this role.
This role requires an active UK NMC registration

Main duties of the job

- To contribute to the on-going development of effective care pathways between hospital and community treatment services for alcohol (and drug when required) issues.
- To contribute towards the on-going development of ACTS.
- The post holder will cover weekend working when rostered to do so.
- To provide independent prescribing interventions (or commit to undergo independent prescribing training) to patients referred to the service.
- Actively promote an effective learning environment and participate in the delivery of education and professional development for all health care professionals.
- Be an active participant in the ACTS 'duty nurse' system.
