We are looking for passionate and motivated midwives to join our forward-thinking, energetic midwifery team at UHD. Maternity services across Poole and Bournemouth have created new opportunities and will relocate to a new purpose-built maternity unit in 2025, this is a great time to join us and be part of our new team. We are looking to recruit Band 6 midwives across the following areas:
- Antenatal
- Community
- Labour Ward
- Haven birth centre (co-located)
- Maternity triage
- Postnatal
Maternity Services at UHD are in the community in Poole and Bournemouth and on a self-contained site currently at the St Mary's Maternity Hospital, located across from the main Poole Hospital site moving to the Royal Bournemouth hospital 'BEACH' building in 2025.
St Mary's Maternity is the centre for all maternity care in east Dorset and is equipped to meet the needs of women, birthing people and babies through pregnancy, birth and during the postnatal period. Approximately 4500 babies are born at UHD each year.
The maternity service provides a person-centred service defined by need always considering the level of risk, supportive of choice as well as safety, whilst ultimately aimed at reducing risks. The Maternity Service offers a traditional model of midwifery care with specialist teams for the acute and a geographically based community service. We are proud to celebrate our first continuity of carer team, who provide care to women from our global majority community.
Main duties of the job
As a and 6 midwife it is expected that you will be clinically competent and take responsibility as a mentor for student midwives. You will work a shift pattern that includes unsocial hours and provides a 24/7, 365 day a year service. We are supportive of flexible working requests. We can offer you the opportunity to take on link roles within infection control / risk management / clinical skills trainer/ safeguarding as required by the service. We are responsive to national agendas and continuously review and develop our services often leading to opportunities to progress your career.
Base Location: Royal Bournemouth and Poole Hospital based location moving solely to Royal Bournemouth Hospital in 2025 with hubs for community staff.

The maternity service at UHD obtain regular feedback from staff to improve our maternity service and ensure we are a great place to work. Our latest SCORE (Safety, Communication, Operational, Reliability and Engagement) survey had one of the highest response rates in the country. The report showed that staff do not wish to leave the organisation and the people from different disciplines/backgrounds work together as a well-co-ordinated team.

- Assist maintenance, monitoring and evaluation of standards in maternity care, assist the implementation of recommendations from Professional bodies and Patient Charter Standards
