Healthcare Support Worker - Ward 22

Job summary

Are you an experienced Health Care Support worker, looking for an exciting challenge? Ward 22 have a full time senior HCSW role due to promotion.

Ward 22 is a busy short stay ward, specialising in care of the older person. Patients on ward 22 have a variety of long term and acute health care needs, so we are looking for a dedicated and compassionate HCSW to help us meet their many complex needs.

You must have a willingness to undertake further training E.G. phlebotomy, ECG recording to support the team in the management of patients with acute medical conditions. This role requires: Completion of a competency-based workbook orequivalent relevant experience to vocational level 3

Main duties of the job

Experience of working with acute patients in a hospital setting would be beneficial, and working well within a team is also essential.

You will need to be flexible in your working hours to work shifts/unsocial hours including nights as required.

You will be responsible for providing a range of personalised care for patients and a range of clinical duties under the guidance and supervision of the team leader/nurse in charge including: assisting patients with personal hygiene, toileting, use of continence aids, catheter care, stoma care, measuring & monitoring patient output, removal of catheters, moving and handling, use of mobility appliances, correct patient positioning, assess pressure areas and skin integrity, ensuring patient safety, taking specimens including blood sugars, taking and recording physical measurements observing patients for changes in condition, carrying out simple dressings, removal of venflons.

You will be responsible for the supervision and training of all new HCSW, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge needed to manage their workload.

Base Location: Royal Bournemouth Hospital
