ONE DORSET PATHOLOGY - delivering 21st century Pathology services
The One Dorset Pathology service will bring together Dorset County Hospital, Poole Hospital and The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals to deliver a single, efficient and high-quality pathology service. It will provide clinicians, patients and carers with a consistent and high standard of service across the area and maximise efficiency in the use of resources. The new service is a formal collaboration and is included in one of the 29 national pathology networks known as the 'South 6' network that includes: Hampshire Hospitals, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth, Salisbury and Southampton.
A new £25 million state of the art building is being built on the Wessex field site at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital and is scheduled to open in 2023. A new pathology computer system linking all the pathology laboratories in the county is now up and running and we have recently completed a major tender across the S6 Network to replace all of the analytical platforms.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a s Senior Biomedical Scientist to join the Clinical Biochemistry Department at University Hospitals Dorset. The successful applicant will be an active member in shaping the future of our service as we commission the new bespoke hub building on the Royal Bournemouth Hospital site. Main duties of the job
Biochemistry is an ISO15189:2012 accredited service that operates across both Poole and Bournemouth sites and is well supported by the UHD Quality Management team. The main chemistry analysers and pre-analytics are supplied by Roche with new units currently being installed at the hub building. Dorset has a unique community expertly provisioned for by our Proteins section with further analysers in use are from Sebia and BindingSite.
The successful applicant would be required to perform the analysis of blood and body fluids using specialised laboratory equipment and guide and lead those staff within their team. They are responsible for delegated tasks, involved in the day-to-day organisation and delivery of a 24-hour Biochemistry service that enables high standard and continuity of patient care. They are expected to maintain an up to date knowledge of developments in Biochemistry as part of their continuing professional development (CPD).
The successful applicant would be expected to act in a lead specialist role responsible for managing a team of Biomedical Scientists and Associate Practitioners using expensive, complex equipment in order to deliver a medical laboratory service to achieve the objectives of the Trust and Directorate. They assist in the teaching and development of BMS staff and support workers.
