Job summary
Applications are invited for a HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist to work within the Haematology & Blood Transfusion Department at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust - Poole Hospital site.
Our laboratory at Poole Hospital provides a comprehensive Haematology & Blood Transfusion service for the surrounding population in East Dorset.
The department is currently well equipped with newly installed DxH900 analysers, Stago STA R Max analysers, Starrsed RS ESR analyser, Tosoh G8 analysers and Ortho Vision platforms (soon to change to Bio-Rad IH500s). The laboratory information system is provided by Clinisys Winpath, connected to ICE order communications and Haemonetics blood tracking. An electronic quality management system is provided by Q-Pulse.
The successful applicant will be joining University Hospitals Dorset at a very exciting time. We have gone live with a new LIMS system which was followed by a continuation of the full equipment replacement exercise across the department in all areas. There is also the construction of a new hub laboratory on the Royal Bournemouth Hospital site which is due to open in 2023.
The department is UKAS accredited, MHRA compliant and IBMS approved for training (both registration and specialist). It is also involved in a successful Internship programme operated by the Bournemouth University.
Main duties of the job
Once training has been completed and the successful candidate has been signed off as competent, they will be expected to be a full participant in the departments 24/7 out of hours service.
Applicants that have completed their IBMS Certificate of Competence and are awaiting award of their accredited BSc degrees or are awaiting a verification visit for the Certificate of Competence, will also be considered.
