Job summary

The Team Leader for the Pan Dorset Intellectual Disabilities (ID) CAMHS Home Team, based at Seascape in Bournemouth, provides clinical and operational leadership to a multidisciplinary team delivering specialist mental health support to children and young people with intellectual disabilities. The role focuses on ensuring high-quality, person-centred care within community settings, enabling young people to remain safely at home and reducing the need for inpatient admissions.

The postholder is responsible for overseeing day-to-day service delivery, managing caseloads, and supporting staff through supervision, training, and professional development. Working closely with families, schools, social care, and other health professionals, the Team Leader ensures coordinated care planning and effective risk management tailored to complex needs.

A key aspect of the role includes driving service improvement, maintaining clinical standards, and ensuring compliance with relevant policies and safeguarding procedures. The Team Leader also contributes to strategic planning across Pan Dorset CAMHS services, promoting innovative approaches to care and early intervention.

Strong leadership, communication, and clinical decision-making skills are essential, alongside experience in CAMHS and intellectual disabilities. The role requires a compassionate, proactive approach to supporting both service users and staff within a dynamic community-based environment.

Main duties of the job

Lead and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Pan Dorset Intellectual Disabilities CAMHS Home Team, ensuring effective service delivery for children and young people with complex needs. Provide clinical leadership and supervision to a multidisciplinary team, supporting staff through regular supervision, appraisal, and ongoing professional development.

Manage and oversee caseload allocation, ensuring timely assessments, care planning, and interventions that are person-centred and evidence based. Support the team in delivering care within community settings, promoting least restrictive practice and preventing unnecessary hospital admissions.

Work collaboratively with families, carers, schools, social care, and partner agencies to develop and implement coordinated care plans. Ensure robust risk assessment and management processes are in place, particularly for high-risk or crisis situations.

Maintain high standards of clinical governance, ensuring compliance with safeguarding policies, legal frameworks, and organisational procedures. Monitor team performance, contribute to audits, and support continuous service improvement initiatives.

Participate in strategic planning and service development across Pan Dorset CAMHS, contributing to innovation and pathway development. Act as a role model for professional practice, promoting a positive team culture and high-quality care delivery.
