Vaccination and Engagement Nurse

Job summary

The Vaccination Outreach and Engagement Nurse will support the delivery of vaccination programmes across Dorset with a specific focus on improving uptake and reducing health inequalities.

The post holder will work with communities, schools, youth organisations and partner agencies to promote vaccination and deliver outreach clinics. The role will support the delivery of vaccinations across multiple programmes including:

o Perinatal vaccinations

o Childhood and school-aged immunisations

o Seasonal influenza

o COVID-19 vaccinations

The role aims to increase accessibility to vaccination for underserved populations by providing community engagement, education and outreach clinics in a range of community settings

To provide a high-quality person-centred approach to care delivery which always considers people's safety, privacy and dignity.

To undertake assessment of patients / service users care needs and develop programmes of care as part of the wider multi-disciplinary care team.

To provide advice and education to patients/ service users and carers regarding their care.

To plan, implement and review health improvement programmes in a range of settings.

Provide supervision, mentorship, and clinical support to students and junior staff in the team

Main duties of the job

Part time post of 22.5 hours per week, fixed for 1 year. The post holder will be required to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.

Supporting delivery of immunisation programmes across Dorset HealthCare, including maternal, childhood, seasonal influenza and COVID-19 vaccination programmes in accordance with national and local policies and guidance.

Delivering safe and effective vaccinations in a variety of settings including schools, community venues, care homes and patients' homes, ensuring that vaccination activity meets required programme targets and timeframes.

Ensuring accurate, timely and high-quality documentation of vaccinations and related clinical activity within the relevant electronic record systems.

Responsibility for the safe handling, transportation and storage of vaccines, maintaining cold chain requirements and adhering to all vaccine management procedures.

Recognising and appropriately respond to adverse reactions following immunisation, including anaphylaxis, in accordance with clinical guidelines and training.

Acting as the Lead Nurse for vaccination sessions when requested, ensuring the safe and efficient running of immunisation clinics.
