Job summary

Are you a consultant in pain medicine looking for a new exciting opportunity? We are pleased in invite applications for a full time or part time consultant in pain medicine to provide all medical aspects of pain management in our Dorset Pain Management Service (DPMS).

As the consultant in pain medicine, you will work flexibly as part of our team and support the wider multidisciplinary team using our biophysical approach. This well-established model enables people living with persistent pain to lead meaningful lives which has been demonstrated by our continuous assessment of outcome measures and patient feedback.

Our team consists of 40 individuals, including a wide range of highly skilled clinicians, such as Pain Consultants, Nurses, Physiotherapists, Psychologists, Pharmacist and Occupational Therapists, Mental Health Nurses, well supported by our dedicated Assistants, Admin staff, Managers and Commissioners.

Main duties of the job

As the consultant in pain medicine, you will provide differential diagnosis support for those patients with ambiguous or complex presentation of symptoms. You will provide conservative, diagnostic and interventional pain procedures as appropriate directly with patient or as part of advice at clinical meetings.

Your job plan will encompass SPA, day surgery, pain intervention, out-patient and administration time and service development time. You will have a shared secretary as well as adequate administration time available from the rest of the admin team to facilitate the smooth running of outpatient clinics and theatres and timely written communication with clinicians, referrers and patients.

You will be a member of the Medical Advisory Committee which is the professional group for career grade doctors within the Trust. This committee meets bi-monthly and provides medical advice and support to management. You will be encouraged and supported in developing the appropriate management and leadership skills to fully participate in service developments.

  • General medical Qualification e.g. MBBS, or equivalent and hold a Licence to Practise.
  • Membership of the Royal College of Anaesthetics or recognised equivalent in any other country.
