General Practitioner - Westhaven & Bridport Hospital

Job summary

Are you a general practitioner or specialty doctor looking to provide primary care services within our rehabilitation wards? We are looking for a part time general practitioner / specialty doctor to be based across 2 of our community hospitals in Bridport and Weymouth.

As a general practitioner you will collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team in the planning and provision of care, investigations, treatment and discharge for patients. You will provide timely clinical review of patients, participate in ward rounds and keep up-to-date and accurate clinical records.

You will assess new patients, agreeing a treatment plan and arrange appropriate investigations discussing this with the nurse and complete clinical records and drug charts and you will work in close association with the Medicines Management Team to achieve best practice in prescribing.

Main duties of the job

Bridport has a 24-bed ward and Westhaven 33-bed ward. They are both rehabilitation wards supporting patients of all ages who are stepped down from acute hospitals before their onward journey home or to a nursing home. You will be complimenting a team of GPs, associate specialists and ANPs already in post, with the day-to-day management of patients with a variety of ongoing and common medical conditions.

You will liaise with the Responsible Clinician, GP's and other medical staff as appropriate. Participate in ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings where these occur during the period of duty.

As general practitioner / specialty doctor you will assist the multidisciplinary in planning the provision of day-to-day care, investigations and treatment of patients on the ward. Support ward staff with communication to relatives, ensuring they are informed of patient progress and support members of the multidisciplinary team to develop clinical assessment skills.

You will join the medical rota and maybe expected to work at both sites although priority will be given to ensure that Westhaven is the main base.
