Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust

Continence Support Worker

The closing date is 23 October 2025

Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an HCA to join the Dorset Bladder & Bowel continence service.

The successful person needs an enthusiasm for continence and an interest in assisting patients with bladder & bowel issues and supporting the patient in managing their incontinence. You would be based in the Weymouth, Portland & Dorchester locality, linking with the local district nurse team and other health professionals within the community.

Responsibilities will require you to work under the supervision of the clinicians within the team, but at times to work autonomously. You will need to hold a full driver's license and have use of your own car, as you may be required to visit patients in their own homes and other community settings.

The post requires you to mainly work remotely and appropriate equipment will be provided, but your base would be with the continence team based at Forston Clinic near Dorchester.

In return for your enthusiasm and commitment, we can provide an opportunity for you to develop your clinical skills in continence and experience in a supportive team, with regular supervision and appraisals. You will be required to achieve a certain competency level which we will give you support and training to help you reach. Opportunities for further training may be available through the Trusts Training Department.

Applications from candidates that require current Skilled worker sponsorship to work in the UK are unfortunately ineligible to apply for this position.

Main duties of the job

You will be carrying out continence assessments for housebound patients via telephone consultation, patients own home, or a care home facility if appropriate.

These continence assessments will include conservative lifestyle advice such as fluid intake & bladder irritants, which may help with bladder & bowel symptoms as well as providing the basis for containment products and devices.

Assessment consultations may involve the patient, or family members and other care providers where consent has been obtained.

There would also be an opportunity to carryout bladder scans and sheath fittings for which full training will be provided.
