Job summary

Dorset Mental Health Support Teams in Schools (MHSTs) are seeking a Trainee Senior Wellbeing Practitioner/Trainee Supervisor (Band 6) for our team based in the North & East Dorset area. You will be required to attend Exeter University to complete the training for this post from January 2025 on a part time basis over two years.

The Mental Health Support Teams work with children and young people (and their families) who are experiencing mild to moderate mental health needs, within education settings.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic Senior wellbeing and supervising practitioner who is passionate about children's mental health. You will have experience of supervising/supporting clinicians, and have a qualification in delivering Low Intensity CBT interventions, either with children and young people or with adults.

You will be wishing to enhance your clinical skills to be able to work alongside children and young people with differing presentations, whilst providing support to the team, and wider professional network, to develop skills and knowledge base.

You will be joining an established, creative, supportive team of professionals and be supported yourself during your training and beyond to practice safely, ethically, creatively, and curiously.

Main duties of the job

The role will help to oversee the delivery of the clinical work undertaken by the Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs) within the team, both those in training and those who are already qualified, ensuring that Low Intensity CBT interventions are used effectively to support children and young people's mental wellbeing. You will provide clinical supervision and leadership to more junior colleagues and will be involved with developing clinical operational processes. The team also works with education settings to help them to implement a whole school approach to good emotional wellbeing. This can include for example consultation, training and small and large group work to promote good emotional health for all.

You will also be expected to hold a clinical caseload and to use your newly learnt knowledge to deliver short term evidence based interventions to children, families and young people whose needs are more complex in nature.

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.
