Job summary

Are you an enthusiastic art psychotherapist? We are looking for an art therapist to join our newly launched Complex Trauma pathway within Dorset.

Dorset HealthCare has recently transformed its Community Mental Health Services and, as part of this investment, has launched a new pathway for people who have experienced complex trauma and/or who have complex emotional needs. We are looking for an art therapist trained in NICE-approved, evidence-based treatment interventions. We will consider applicants who are committed to training if not trained already.

As a psychotherapist you will be solely accountable and responsible for the direct delivery of interventions to adults/older adults with Complex Trauma presentations. You will be skilled in assessment, formulation, and in the delivery of appropriate highly specialised programmes of care, including art psychotherapy, where highly complex facts must be considered, and where expert opinion may differ. You will need to plan and prioritise patient workload whilst coordinating with existing teams and other agencies.

The role is diverse and allows opportunities to develop your own individual therapy skills, work on service development, continue with your professional development, and work with a range of skilled professionals who are all passionate about working with adults/older adults.

This is a part-time post of up to 18.75 hours (2.5 days) per week.

Main duties of the job

Clinical work covers a whole range of different problems with which patients may present, as well as skilled and often complex assessments. You will provide highly specialised advice to clients, their families and carers where appropriate, and to staff in community teams and other organisations involved in care.

You will be responsible for developing specialised programmes of care. Judgements need to be made involving highly complex facts or situations, which require the analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options.

The art psychotherapist will be expected to be solely accountable and responsible for the direct delivery of art psychotherapy services to adults with Complex Trauma, Personality Disorder or Personality Difficulties. He/she will be skilled in assessment, formulation, and in the delivery of appropriate highly specialised programmes of care, including art psychotherapy, where highly complex facts must be considered, and where expert opinion may differ. He/she will provide highly specialised advice to clients, their families and carers where appropriate, and to the wider multidisciplinary team. The therapist will need to be able to plan and prioritise their patient workload whilst coordinating with existing teams and other agencies. They will be required to meet the activity and quality performance targets of the organisation.
