Job summary

We are seeking a Rehabilitation Engineer to be part of our clinical team, working in a variety of settings across the county, assessing, planning, fabricating and assembling manual and powered wheelchairs, seating and accessories for clients of all ages with a wide range of disabilities.

This is a challenging but rewarding post in a supportive and welcoming integrated Wheelchair Service, giving you and your career the best opportunity to flourish. You will work closely with our Admin team and the Warehouse and Repairs team, liaising about a variety of operational activities, such as effective use of stock.

This post requires registration with IPEM or AHCS. If necessary, the successful applicant will be supported in attaining registration following an approved training scheme. Registration must be within 24 months of commencement of role.

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.

Main duties of the job

You will work independently with clients and those involved with their care, as well as jointly with different clinicians, providing excellent client experience, and using different communication methods and empathy at all times. You will provide specialist technical support and advice based on engineering knowledge and principles and work collaboratively with therapists to optimise the outcome for the client. You will also contribute to staff training in areas such as management of medical devices and will participate in quality management and audit.

You will document clinical and technical interventions on our database, maintaining and managing the client record according to NHS standards and Medical Device Regulations. You will be expected to manage your own caseload and be proactive in assisting management of the service workload in an efficient and effective way to meet required KPIs. You will also contribute to risk management in your own practice areas, as well as supporting risk management in the Warehouse environment and Service practices.

You will report to our existing senior Rehabilitation Engineers, receiving supervision and professional guidance to ensure best practice and compliance with MDR and Trust Policies within the service.
